New Parents. Welcome to Toowong Harriers Little Athletics. We look forward to your family’s company for the 2021/22 season. Our Centre Handbook is a great resource as it contains most of the information for the upcoming season.
Each week around 70 - 90 volunteers are required to successfully run our weekly meet. Without the help of new parents each year, our centre would slowly grind to a halt. We understand that you may feel apprehensive, however there are many roles which are incredibly necessary and require little experience. If you have any questions please speak to one of our committee members who are usually wearing a Toowong Harriers polo shirt.
Returning Parents. Welcome back! Particularly to the many regular helpers who make our centre such a great success week in week out.
Everyone. Each week our centre manager sends out an email about the upcoming meet and may include information about coaching, upcoming events and general information.
As previously mentioned, volunteers are required to successfully run the weekly meet. There will be a link in the weekly email to enable you to register for a role in the upcoming meet.
If you are unsure about volunteering, please talk to Barbara our officials coordinator () as she is the best source of help and information. Barbara can generally be found in the tent adjacent the clubhouse and is easily spotted by the line of volunteers getting their names marked off! Alternatively, Trudy our centre manager is always available to answer any questions.
Something you may not be aware of is the family deposit portion of your fees will be refunded in approx May 2022 when 12 volunteer sessions per family have been completed. It is important to ensure your session has been correctly recorded so please make your way to Barbara before the meet starts so she can record your attendance. This is regardless of using the link to register for a role.
If time gets away on you as it tends to do and you did not preregister a role, please make your way to Barbara to see what roles are vacant.
It is important that volunteers officiating at events know what they are doing and convey this to the athletes. All the rules are provided in the folders located at each field event. Alternatively don’t be afraid to ask. We are always willing to provide assistance.
The Australian Athletics Officials’ Education Scheme offers Level 1 Officiating courses online (free of charge) for all athletic events. Level 1 is the basic grading level aimed at officials wishing to officiate to a local club/centre/school level. We would love to see some of our parents take the opportunity to become accredited in a couple of events. Each course takes about 1 hour. Our coaching coordinator (firstname.lastname@example.org) or centre manager (email@example.com) will be able to provide you with more information.
It is our policy that all athletes participating at meets and training sessions must have a parent/guardian present at the venue throughout the entire activity. This is for safety reasons should your child become injured or fall ill. It is also in the case of the activity ending early due to a weather event or the age group finishing earlier than scheduled. In this case it places an unfair burden on the age marshals and volunteers to care for children until they are collected.
Whilst it is our preference for parents/guardians to remain at the activity, we recognise this cannot always be the case. If circumstances prevent you from remaining at the activity, you are asked to nominate another parent who is known to you and your child who is remaining at the event to act as a contact. Please complete the register at the recording desk before leaving the venue.
Finally, if you have any questions please speak to one of our committee members (usually spotted wearing a Toowong Harriers polo shirt). They are always willing to help.
We hope your family enjoys the season.
